About our grants.
What kind of organizations do we typically support?
Service and Therapy Animals:
We support organizations using trained service and therapy animals to help people.
We support organizations promoting the value of owning animals, creating educational experiences with animals, and helping current owners become better owners.
Animals in Need:
We support organizations focused on providing care, assistance, rehabilitation, and re-homing services for animals and their owners in times of need.
What size grants are available?
Grants may range in size from $500 to $5,000.
What types of things can grant money be used for?
While we encourage you to be specific and creative in your use of the funds, we do not have requirements on their use, provided they align with the mission of Feed It Forward.
What does the grant application and award process look like?
Qualified organizations can apply for grants on our website. We will award grants twice per year, in the fall and spring.
For Spring 2019 grants, organizations will need to apply by December 31, 2018. Recipients will be selected and notified in January. We will feature recipients and their stories in our web and social presence. Recipients may also be featured in our national Nutrena brand advertising.
What kind of organizations do we not typically support?
- Organizations without 501(c)(3) status
- Lobbying/political organizations for political purposes
- Religious groups for religious purposes
- Sports events and/or athletic groups
- Disease related causes or research
- Individuals or individual needs
- Advertising, Publications, films or television production or programming

How do we evaluate organizations?
Feed It Forward will fund only registered U.S. nonprofit, nongovernmental, civic or educational organizations with 501(c)(3) status or a comparable fiscal sponsor.
Selected organizations must have clear objectives for the grant funds, indicators of success, and a plan to measure and report on outcomes.
The organization, program or project must align with Feed It Forward’s stated focus areas.
What’s required of grant recipients?
Each organization that receives a grant from the Feed It Forward program will be featured in a combination of print, digital and social advertising as part of the program. Thus, an on-site interview session will be scheduled that shall include still and video photography, as well as interviews of key organization members and/or participants in the organization’s programs as applicable. Signed releases from all participants and animal and facility owners will be required as well.
How often can you apply?
We accept one proposal per group per application cycle. Application cycles close on June 30 and December 31 each year. Grant payments are available as a one-time, single-payout payment. Goods and services are not available as payment methods.
